Deep basement excavation

IOTA is very experienced in the excavation of deep and complex basements using a combination of methods and technologies. We ensure that the excavation walls are adequately supported by employing appropriate shoring & shotcrete methods, managing storm and ground water by providing for proper drainage around the site and promptly pumping out water from the site.
IOTA’s key considerations in deep basement excavations include soil conditions and ground water level, maintenance of the excavation wall and support system in permanent condition, working space requirements and site constraints, adjacent properties, expertise and experience requirements as well as the cost and if preferred timelines for a project.
In addition to many years of experience, IOTA fully owns all the equipment and expertise required for deep basement excavation works.
Most deep basement excavation works experience complex situations that require a highly efficient work programme and monitoring system. Such complex situations include:

  • Challenging geotechnical conditions.
  • Varying rock/soil types in small spans
  • Unstable slopes requiring complex slope support arrangements.
  • Very congested urban environments.
  • Close proximity to water table or large water masses.
  • Underground services encountered during excavation e.g. pipelines, sewer systems and underground electricity cables.
